Gaming Does anyone know of a foursquare self-help group?
Foursquare: I've quickly become addicted to foursquare. I didn't think the silly game for my phone would take such a hold, yet I find myself pulling out the phone and checking in wherever we go. So far, my checkins have earned 21 badges, with these being the most recent:
Gowalla: After emailing their customer support and responding with the information they requested, not a word was heard from them so after a week, I started using foursquare. Then . . . three weeks later, I finally received an email telling me that the problem was fixed and that I should re-install the app. That was it. Nothing about my original question regarding what permissions the program needed to operate on my phone. I did so reluctantly but ran into the same issue from before. All I wanted was to know the permissions which for foursquare can be found in their FAQs. So I give up.
Cursed Mountain: I'm getting into this horror game for the Wii. I'm still in the first stages of Cursed Mountain, but already I like the graphics, the gameplay, and the story, which piques the horror node in my brain.

I'll pray for you... LOL
hohoho
my iphone is one week old, and I am purposely avoiding the games lest I get sucked into these black holes of fun .
I too just started using FourSquare. Still a newbie.
I'm up to 15 badges now thanks to my travels and your tips. I got the "Groupie", "JetSetter" and yes, the "Mile High". :) I'm also temporary Mayor of the Super 8 motel in Escanaba, Michigan.
To Ur-spo: I don't consider 4sq a "game" per-se. It's a social location app. What makes it unique and sticky though are the points and badges you earn as you check into various venues. This triggers your competitive instincts to out-do (or in my case, catch up) with your network of friends.
This competition can tempt users into trying to game the system by checking into nearby places they're not actually at. The app tries to detect and prevent this. For example, it you check into several local places in a short period of time, you may not get credit and you may get a warning. I had to laugh recently when I caught a friend checking into a yoga studio. (If you knew him, you'd laugh too.)
Todd: pray that I can get the Real Housewives badge. ;-)
Ur-spo: I find that foursquare is actually making me want to try new places, and I've discovered quite a few around me that I never knew existed, like a Columbia Memorial Space Center . . . so I can get the NASA badge.
Rick: You'll enjoy it!
Pac: I'm jealous of the Mile High badge and that special checkin in Minneapolis. ;-)
