Photographs & Memories

I bought this Jim Croce CD a few days ago in part because it was on sale. The other has to do with all the songs forming the background music for family camping trips while growing up. No matter where we went -- whether driving up and down California or traveling across the country to see New Orleans or the Badlands of South Dakota or Old Faithful in Yellowstone -- the 8-track we played the most was Photographs and Memories from Jim Croce. At one time, my Brother and I knew all the words to Roller Derby Queen, Time in a Bottle, and Working at the Car Wash Blues.

Slipping the disc into my car's player brought back all the words, all the memories. I love how music can do that.

I LOVED that LP, and just like Seal's & Crofts "Diamond Girl", Carol King's "Tapestry", and James Taylor's "Sweet Baby James", I played them all until either the grooves were worn through, or the tapes just got eaten by the tape player. Now they're all on my iPod and each time I listen, I'm instantly transported. Not only that, I'm a starry-eyed teenager all over again. ::sigh:: Thanks for the memory, Greg!

Oh my God! I can't believe someone else had a Croce moment recently! He was #4 and #8 on my list of most irresistible songs. He is great, isn't he? I can only wonder what his career would have been, had he not died.

And I'm so glad you got a copy of his album.

Jim Croce is one of my all time favs and I have this CD, too - along with all of the LP's. He was a master songwriter and storyteller.

One of my prized LP's is a two record collection of his very earliest works. One side are tracks of him talking about his youth, his experiences in the army, etc. On another side one of the tracks (to my delight) was him singing "The Pig Song", a little ditty that my friends and I used to sing in college.

Enjoy that CD!
